About US

  • Background
The Keenly Humanitarian Assistance for New Afghanistan (KHANA) organization was founded in 2014, registered under the Ministry of Economy with the registration number 4319. It was established by a group of qualified female civil society actors committed to making a meaningful impact in Afghanistan. KHANA is a national, non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to leveraging human, financial, and technical resources to address the pressing challenges faced by the country’s poorest and most marginalized communities. The organization's mission places a particular emphasis on harnessing human potential, expanding opportunities, and improving the quality of life for vulnerable groups, especially women, girls, and children. Its work spans five key areas:
  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) & Protection :
  • KHANA has prioritized addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and fostering protection mechanisms for vulnerable populations, especially women and girls. Our approach includes creating safe spaces, providing psychosocial support, and establishing referral pathways to essential services such as healthcare, legal aid, and shelter. We integrate Sharia-based guidelines to align our programs with local norms, ensuring acceptance and sustainability. Community engagement is a key component of our strategy, involving religious leaders, elders, and women's groups to promote awareness and advocacy against GBV while strengthening community resilience and response systems.
  • Education:
  • Education is a cornerstone of KHANA's mission, focusing on inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for children, youth, and adults in underserved communities. We prioritize access to education for girls and marginalized groups through innovative community-based schooling programs, teacher training, and the development of gender-sensitive curricula. Our initiatives also support School Management Shuras (SMS). In addition, KHANA promotes vocational and literacy training for women, empowering them with knowledge and skills to improve their socioeconomic standing.
  • Agriculture, Food Security & Poverty Reduction:
  • Recognizing the crucial link between agriculture and livelihoods, KHANA implements programs to enhance food security and reduce poverty in rural communities. We provide farmers with training on sustainable agricultural practices, access to improved seeds, and modern tools to increase productivity. Our initiatives emphasize climate-resilient farming techniques and the empowerment of women in agriculture.
  • Rule of Law and Access to Justice:
  • KHANA is committed to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring access to justice for all, particularly for women and marginalized communities. Our legal aid programs provide free consultation and representation, with a focus on family law, inheritance rights, and GBV cases. To navigate the local sociopolitical context, we incorporate Sharia-compliant practices and work .
  • Economic Inclusion and Vocational Training (EIVT):
  • KHANA’s economic inclusion programs aim to empower community through vocational training and support for small businesses. We provide tailored skill-building workshops, in-kind grants, and microfinance opportunities to enable communities to start or expand their ventures. Our training programs cover diverse sectors, including but not limited to handicrafts, tailoring, livestock management, and digital skills. By promoting women’s participation in the workforce and encouraging entrepreneurship, KHANA contributes to reducing gender disparities and fostering economic growth at the community level.
  • Environment & Climate Change :
  • KHANA recognizes the urgent need to address climate change and its impact on vulnerable communities. We implement projects that promote environmental conservation, including reforestation, water management, and renewable energy solutions. Our community-driven initiatives focus on building resilience to climate shocks by educating farmers and households on sustainable practices. KHANA also advocates for policies that support environmental sustainability and collaborates with local stakeholders to mitigate the long-term effects of climate change on agriculture, health, and livelihoods.

In collaboration with local authorities, we promote disease prevention, reproductive health, and access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing the overall well-being of communities.KHANA is deeply committed to creating widespread awareness and fostering a commitment to a just, democratic, and compassionate society in Afghanistan. A core aspect of its vision is to ensure equality between women and men, where every individual has the right to lead a life of dignity, self-respect, and fulfillment. Furthermore, KHANA aspires to be nationally and internationally recognized as a leading organization in civil society development. It seeks to create, facilitate, and strengthen networks that promote trust and collaboration among Afghan citizens.
